Why is the month in which I enrolled PRIVILEGE so important?

Your enrolment month now defines your mileage expiry month and also the end of your membership year.
The first day after the end of your enrolment month marks the beginning of your new membership year. A membership year runs for 12 months and re-starts every year.
There are exceptions for Privilege Gold and Platinum members:
The membership year for existing Privilege Gold members starts on April 1; for existing Privilege Platinum members, the start date is July 1.
Why is the membership year important?

The membership year represents the time period during in which you can collect the required amount of Status Miles for either a membership level upgrade or requalification.
This is the last day of your membership year. By this date you need to have collected the required number of Status Miles for an upper tier membership. On the following day (i.e. the first day of your new membership year), the Status Miles counter is set to zero.
When will I be upgraded to the next membership level?

Upgrades take place automatically on the day you reach the required number of Status Miles. New membership cards are then sent to all members within the following two weeks.

What effect do the new membership conditions have on a current elite membership?

Membership validity is not significantly affected by the changes. Members who reached Gold status before July 1, 2006 will retain March 31 as their personal Membership Renewal Date. Those who reached Platinum status before July 1, 2006 will retain June 30 as their personal Membership Renewal Date.
There is, however, a small change relating to membership re-qualification. As of July 2006, re-qualification is based on the amount of Status Miles collected during the 12 months that precede the membership expiry date, rather than during the calendar year.
Let’s look at an example:
If Gold renewal came up in March 2006, the member would have needed to collect the required number of Status Miles between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005.
If Gold renewal comes up in March 2007, the member would need to collect the required number of Status Miles between April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007.
The time period for collecting miles remains unchanged at 12 months.
There is no impact on mileage expiry as miles do not expire for Gold and Platinum members.
Why is the new Platinum membership only valid for one year?
